High fuel prices, uncertainty around supply - and don’t even get us started on fertiliser. It’s a tough run, no matter which way you look at it.
Lately, many of us have faced decisions we never thought we’d have to make. They can weigh heavily - in our heads and in our hearts.
It’s no surprise stress levels are high, and at times it can feel overwhelming.
From conversations across the industry, a few things stand out:
Stress doesn’t stay contained - it can flow into our families. Being mindful of how and when we have tough conversations matters, especially with kids. Younger ones don’t need to carry the full weight, while older kids often benefit from honest, open chats.
Keep an eye on each other. If someone seems off, withdrawn or not themselves, a simple “Are you okay?” can go a long way. You don’t need to fix it - just listening matters.
And while staying informed is important, constant noise and negativity doesn’t help. Choosing a couple of trusted sources and stepping back from the rest can protect your headspace.
It’s also okay to say it’s hard right now - because it is. That doesn’t show weakness, it shows strength.
But through all of this, there’s still plenty of resilience in our industry. People showing up, supporting each other, and finding a way forward - one step at a time.
