Chair – Policy Council
Sheep Producers Australia is seeking a highly capable and respected industry leader to Chair its Policy Council.
This is a strategic governance role responsible for leading the Council’s policy development process, ensuring robust, evidence-based advice that reflects the priorities of Australian sheep producers. The Chair will guide discussions, build consensus across diverse perspectives, and ensure the Council operates with discipline, transparency and impact. The policy council provides a core role in advising SPA and what policy it should adopt on behalf of industry.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the Policy Council with a clear focus on its scope, purpose and strategic objectives

Chair meetings, ensuring structured, productive and outcome-focused discussions

Work with the Secretariat to set agendas, schedule meetings and oversee accurate minutes

Facilitate respectful and constructive debate, including mediating differing views
-
Guide the Council toward clear positions and summarise consensus outcomes
-
Ensure agreed decisions are upheld and not re-opened without formal review

Enable all members to actively contribute to decision-making

Oversee voting processes and exercise proxy votes where authorised

Provide strategic input and advice to the Secretariat on priorities and operations
About You
You are a credible and experienced leader with a strong understanding of the Australian agricultural industry and its policy landscape. You bring:

Demonstrated experience chairing boards, committees or advisory groups

Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills

The ability to navigate complex issues and build consensus

Sound judgement and a commitment to good governance

Strategic thinking with a focus on practical outcomes for industry
