Future focused. Industry led. Climate ready.
About the Project
The Green Sheep Project is a collaborative initiative helping sheep producers understand and document their environmental sustainability to support ongoing market access and growth.
Led by Sheep Producers Australia, the Green Sheep Project will partner with Natural Resource Management organisations and supply chain representatives to provide producers with user-friendly tools for recording environmental performance, improving grazing and pasture management, tracking natural capital and making data-driven decisions.
Over three years, and together, we will demonstrate how production systems can increase productivity, profitability, lower emissions, and increase on-farm biodiversity.

Building a climate-smart, resilient, and profitable Australian sheep industry.
Together we learn for a stronger future
Why It Matters
Australia’s sheep industry leads the world in lamb and wool production - but faces new and evolving challenges:
Climate variability and environmental risk
Market volatility and trade expectations
Sustainability credential verification
Green Sheep Project responds with practical, on-farm solutions to help producers meet these challenges with confidence.
By 2028, the Green Sheep Project will deliver:
Enhanced reporting systems
simple, proven tools for producers to verify environmental credentials.
Improved grazing & pasture management
increasing on-farm productivity and resilience.
Natural capital documentation
practical ways to protect, enhance, and monetise natural assets.
Data-driven decisions
linking environmental information to farm management.
Mixed farming insights
showcasing sheep’s role in sustainable mixed systems.
Who's Involved
Supply chain collaboration brings together representatives from farm to fork – and from fleece to fashion.
Collaboration enhances growth, adaption and development and is the best way to show our growing global markets how Australia is preparing for a climate-smart future.
