What's happening here?

The Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority (CMA) Green Sheep Project is trialing and demonstrating practical, farmer-ready natural capital reporting solutions for mixed farming systems in South-West Victoria. The project will also develop pathways for farmers to receive recognition for existing environmental stewardship.

 

Focus:
  • Improve farmer understanding of natural captial reporting tools

  • Develop farmer natural capital credentialing and sustainability reporting confidence

  • Increase data literacy, skills and knowledge around sustainability

  • Create adoption pathways through local advisors and networks

 

Location?

South-West Victoria, delivered by Glenelg Hopkins CMA with regional producer groups and supply chain stakeholders.

Project goals?
  1. Test mixed farming system natural-capital tools and calculators

  2. Monitor demonstration farms to track progress

  3. Improve credentialling and sustainability reporting confidence

  4. Develop producer reference groups to improve awareness, knowledge and skills

 

What’s involved?
  • Selection and baseline assessment of 3–5 demonstration farms

  • On-farm site visits, grazing and biodiversity field days

  • Testing emissions, biodiversity and natural capital metrics

  • Refining natural capital measurement and reporting tools based on farmer feedback

  • Workshops
