On February 20 the US Supreme Court ruled to uphold the lower court’s finding.  Following the Supreme Court ruling, the US Administration introduced a revised approach using an alternative legislative pathway under Section 122 of the US Trade Act (1974).

For years, the European Union- Australia Free Trade Agreement has been viewed within industry as a key plank in a diversified trade strategy - the last remaining affluent, high-value consumer market where Australian sheepmeat does not yet enjoy commercially meaningful access.

Sheep Producers Australia supports the continuation of negotiations only on the clear and non-negotiable condition that Australian sheepmeat receives substantially increased, commercially meaningful market access.

Sheep Producers Australia (SPA) is disappointed with the announcement of tariffs on red meat exports to the US this morning.

Australia’s peak red meat bodies have called for calm in response to heightened speculation about possible US tariffs on all imports.

As negotiations are being finalised around the ambitious Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement (A-EU FTA) Australia’s sheep industry is crying out for a level playing field on the EU bloc, insisting the Australian Government must hold fast in securing significant increases in market access for Australian red meat imports.

The Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement will deliver benefits and opportunities for many Australian producers. For sheepmeat this means Australia will have access to a tariff-free quota of 25,000 tonnes rising to 75,000 tonnes and tariffs eliminated after ten years.

The group saw changes to conditions on board vessels, including improved ventilation and increased pen space, and discussed the range of animal welfare indicators that are being developed and used by industry covering animal behaviours, management, and environment.

Sheep Producers Australia welcomes the confirmation yesterday by the Albanese government that the Indian Government has completed its domestic requirements to enable implementation of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA).

The Australian sheepmeat industry today welcomed the signing of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA) by Australian Trade Minister Dan Tehan and Indian Minister for Commerce and Industry Priyush Goyal.
