Sheep Producers Australia’s Policy Director Corinne Dooley, recently presented to the South Australian Livestock Research Council (SALRC) about the organisation’s key policy priorities, including market access, climate and environment, animal welfare, product integrity, biosecurity and the red meat transaction levy review.

Last month I had the opportunity to attend the World Meat Congress alongside industry leaders, policy makers and supply-chain experts from across the globe. It was a valuable opportunity to reconnect with global colleagues, including counterparts from Beef + Lamb New Zealand, to share insights and compare emerging challenges and opportunities across our sectors.

Sustainability isn’t just about carbon offsets, biodiversity credits or planting trees - those projects are important, but they’re not where it starts. 

A national effort to future-proof the Australian sheep industry and strengthen its sustainability will begin next year.

The Federal Government has today confirmed that Australia’s red meat and livestock industry will not be negatively impacted by its decision to sign Australia up to the Global Methane Pledge. The Federal Government has listened to industry concerns by ruling out methane tax or any other punitive measures that could harm Australia’s red meat supply chain.
