National Farmers' Federation–Suicide Prevention Australia Parliamentary Breakfast

Members of the Sheep Producers Australia team attended the National Farmers' FederationSuicide Prevention Australia Parliamentary Breakfast in Canberra this morning, where new data highlighted the growing mental health challenges facing Australian farmers.

The figures are sobering.

Just one in seven farmers report being able to easily access mental health support, despite farmers experiencing significantly higher rates of psychological distress than the broader population.

This research also showed the cumulative impact of droughts, floods, bushfires, rising costs and other pressures facing farm businesses, with farmer wellbeing declining as exposure to these challenges increases.

Mental health is fundamental to the wellbeing of farming families, the resilience of rural communities and the future of our industry.
