MLA Red Meat Panel

Sheep Producers Australia joined livestock industry representatives in Sydney for Meat & Livestock Australia’s Red Meat Advisory Panel.

This panel is an important advisory and consultation forum, bringing together representatives from Research Advisory Councils, Peak Industry Bodies and MLA program managers to help shape national research, development and adoption priorities.

About 45 people took part in the meeting, including Sheep Producers Australia Chair Bindi Murray and Policy Director Corinne Dooley.

Corinne presented Sheep Producers Australia's policy priorities and provided an update on major projects including The Future Flock and the Green Sheep Project, helping ensure sheep producer priorities are part of national discussions about future research and investment.

A strong theme from the meeting was the value of working across species and regions.

Many of the big issues facing livestock producers are shared, creating opportunities to collaborate, reduce duplication and deliver better value from industry investment.

This meeting also challenged participants to think differently about some of agriculture’s perennial issues -  looking beyond established approaches to find new solutions.

For Sheep Producers Australia, participating in forums such as the Red Meat Advisory Panel is an important opportunity to make sure the needs and priorities of sheep producers help inform research, development and investment across the red meat industry.
